Moscow, February 09 (QNA) - An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck on Monday off the coast of Kamchatka, east of Russia.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the epicenter of the quake occurred 194 kilometers southeast the town of Vilyuchinsk, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or major damage, but the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center warned of the possibility of "dangerous" sea waves of up to one meter high on some Russian coasts near the epicenter. 

In 2025, the Kamchatka Peninsula experienced five strong earthquakes, the strongest of which was a 7.4 magnitude earthquake on July 20, which caused tsunami waves up to four meters high across the Pacific Ocean.

The Kamchatka Peninsula is located above the Pacific Ring of Fire, a broad arc-shaped area of ​​seismic and volcanic activity. (QNA)
