Doha, February 06 (QNA) - Al Wakrah secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Al Ahli on Thursday at Saoud bin Abdulrahman Stadium, in Week 15 of the Doha Bank Stars League.

Al Wakrah's goals were scored by Ayoub Assal in first-half stoppage time (45+5), Lucas Mendes in the 67th minute, and Hamdy Fathy, who struck the decisive winner deep into added time (90+2). Al Ahli found the net through Ahmed Reyed Mawla in the 20th minute and Sekou Oumar Yansane in the 75th minute.

The result lifted Al Wakrah to sixth place temporarily with 22 points, while Al Ahli suffered a second successive defeat, remaining tenth on 15 points.

Al Wakrah dominated possession in the opening stages and imposed their rhythm on the game, but initially struggled to penetrate Al Ahli's compact defensive setup. Al Ahli focused on defensive organization and quick transitions, taking the lead when a precise pass unlocked the defense and allowed Ahmed Reyed Mawla to advance from the right and fire into the net in the 20th minute.

Al Wakrah responded with sustained pressure and came close to equalizing before the break, but missed a number of opportunities until Ayoub Assal finally restored parity in stoppage time, capitalizing on a delivery into the box to make it 1-1 at halftime.

The hosts continued to press after the restart and were rewarded in the 67th minute, when a corner kick was met by defender Lucas Mendes, who finished confidently to give Al Wakrah the lead.

Al Ahli showed resilience and drew level once again in the 75th minute, as Sekou Oumar Yansane headed home after a set piece was initially saved by the goalkeeper.

As the match appeared headed for a draw, Al Wakrah snatched victory in dramatic fashion. In the second minute of stoppage time, Hamdy Fathy rose highest to power a header into the net from a corner kick, sealing all three points and prompting the final whistle shortly thereafter. (QNA)
