Nyon, Switzerland, February 27 (QNA) - The draw for the UEFA Europa League Round of 16, conducted Friday at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, has mapped out a series of compelling and balanced fixtures as teams vie for a place in the quarter-finals.
The draw pitted Belgium's Genk against Germany's Freiburg, while the round will also feature an all-Italian clash between Bologna and Roma.
In other matchups, Hungary's Ferencvaros will meet Portugal's Sporting Braga, and Germany's VfB Stuttgart is set to face Porto in what is regarded as one of the marquee ties of this round.
Further fixtures include Greece's Panathinaikos taking on Spain's Real Betis, while England's Nottingham Forest will face Denmark's Midtjylland.
The draw also produced a clash between Spain's Celta Vigo and France's Olympique Lyonnais, while Lille will face Aston Villa.
The first-leg matches are scheduled for March 12, hosted by Genk, Bologna, Ferencvaros, Stuttgart, Panathinaikos, Nottingham Forest, Celta Vigo, and Lille. The return legs will take place on March 19 at the home grounds of Freiburg, Roma, Sporting Braga, Porto, Real Betis, Midtjylland, Olympique Lyonnais, and Aston Villa, at which point the quarter-finalists will be confirmed.
