CPJ Says 129 Journalists, Media Workers Slain in 2025
New York, February 25 (QNA) - The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) announced that 129 journalists and media workers were slain in 2025.
In a report issued Wednesday, CPJ stated that more than three-quarters of the killings occurred in conflict settings, while Palestinian journalists accounted for more than 60% of the 86 members of the press killed by Israeli fire during the year.
It also noted an increase in the number of journalists killed in Ukraine and Sudan in 2025 compared to the previous year, pointing to the killing of four journalists in Ukraine, marking the highest annual number of press casualties in the Russia-Ukraine war since 15 journalists were killed in 2022.
The committee stressed that journalists have become increasingly at risk amid the continued culture of impunity, citing the lack of transparent investigations into the killings.
The death toll represents the second consecutive annual record for journalist fatalities and marks the deadliest year since the committee began collecting data more than three decades ago. (QNA)
