Ukrainian President Calls for Specific Date for EU Accession
Kyiv, February 24 (QNA) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday urged the European Union to establish a clear timetable for his country's accession to the bloc.
Speaking on the fourth anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Zelenskyy stated that it is vital for Ukraine to receive a specific date for joining the European Union. He noted that without such guarantees from the bloc, Russia would find ways to obstruct Ukraine's path for decades to come.
Kyiv's appeal follows recent remarks by European Council President Antonio Costa, who stated that the EU looks forward to beginning accession talks with Ukraine as soon as possible, without defining a clear timeline.
Ukraine officially applied for EU membership in February 2022, just months after the war with Russia began, in hopes of an accelerated integration process. While candidate status was granted later that year, formal membership procedures typically span several years. (QNA)
