"On the Shoulder of the Letter" Exhibition Opens at Katara
Doha, February 24 (QNA) - The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) opened Dhia Al Jazaeri's "On the Shoulder of the Letter" exhibition, honoring the Arabic letter as a memory holder and a visual voice of traditional Arabic poetry.
The exhibition, which focuses on the Arabic letter, will be open to the public throughout Ramadan. It marks the first showcasing of the Iraqi artist in Qatar.
"On the Shoulder of the Letter" features 28 artworks that merge the essence of poetry and the beauty of the Arabic letter, influenced by Al Mu'allaqat (pre-Islamic Arabic poems).
The artworks reflect the telling of Arabic poetry in its early days in a scenery such as the desert.
Al Jazaeri expressed his joy at showcasing his work for the first time in Qatar and stated that Katara represents a renowned cultural and artistic platform that all artists wish to present their work in.
He pointed out that the 28 artworks took three years to complete, in what he described as a deep educational and visual experience by delving into Arabic poetry and letters.
The Iraqi artist explained that the concept of the "On the Shoulder of the Letter" exhibition focuses on highlighting poetry in its historical and emotional context.
The letter is not only treated as a language mean, but as a solo figure existing in the painting. He stated that his main goal was to have the letter have its own personality, embodying feelings of pride, wisdom and more, which the poet felt during the tellings.
The artworks go beyond the traditional presentation of texts and provide the visitors with a philosophical concept of poetry. The text transforms into a visual space, and the letter becomes a separate entity while keeping its true meaning.
In a related context, the "Interactive Workshop in Arabic Calligraphy and Ornamentation" by Artist Aisha Rabie launched with great attention from calligraphy enthusiasts.
The workshop provided an interactive space focused on the beauty of the Arabic font. The experience mixed visual knowledge and artistic implementation in an inspiring and creative environment.
The workshop honored the Arabic font as an art capable of renovation and interpretation. It provided participants with a chance to explore the aesthetic side of the letter by understanding its techniques, all in a way that increases awareness of its artistic and cultural value. (QNA)
