Doha, February 16 (QNA) - The State of Qatar will host the 10th edition of the World University Weightlifting Championship – Doha 2026 from September 8 to 12.

The event will be held under the umbrella of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), with broad participation from federations and universities worldwide.

The Doha edition holds particular significance as it marks the return of the championship for the first time since 2018, following a hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Its revival in Doha confirms the resumption of this major international event on the global university sports calendar.

More than 200 male and female athletes are expected to compete across eight weight categories for both men and women.

The competition is anticipated to be highly competitive, featuring student-athletes who compete at the international level and represent their national teams in continental and world championships.

The events will take place at the Student Center in Education City, Doha. The venue will operate within a comprehensive organizational framework that meets the highest international standards, providing an ideal environment for athletes and participating delegations.

This championship is the second global event organized by the Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation (QCSF) since its official launch in 2023, following its successful hosting of the University 3x3 Basketball Championship. This falls under a clear strategy to enhance Qatar's presence on the international university sports map.

In this context, HE President of the Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation, Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Naimi, emphasized that hosting the 10th edition is a milestone for the federation.

He noted that it reflects growing international confidence in Qatar's organizational capabilities and aligns with the federation's vision to support university sports and provide student-athletes with platforms to compete at the highest levels.

QCSF Secretary-General Rashid Said Adiba added that preparations are proceeding according to an integrated organizational and media plan.

The goal is to deliver an exceptional edition that reflects Qatar's cultural image and highlights university sports as a primary platform for discovering and nurturing young talent.

The championship is expected to garner significant media and public attention, with detailed schedules and accompanying events to be announced in the coming period. (QNA)
