Doha, February 16 (QNA) - The Public Works Authority “Ashghal” announced the tendering and awarding of 20 new projects with a total estimated value of approximately QR 11.5 billion, as part of its plan to complete infrastructure, buildings, drainage and public facilities projects in line with the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030 aimed at achieving comprehensive and sustainable development.

In a statement issued on Monday, Ashghal said 12 new projects valued at more than QR 4.5 billion have been awarded. These include six key building projects, most notably the development of Hamad General Hospital, the design and construction of a postal building in Al Thumama, the refurbishment of the Racing and Equestrian Club and the Qatar Equestrian Federation, in addition to the fourth phase of the Al Uqda Equestrian Complex development.

In the roads and residential infrastructure sector, four projects were awarded, including the development of roads and infrastructure in Izghawa and Al Thumid (Packages 1 and 2).

The awarded projects also include beautification works and the construction of air-conditioned pathways within Qatar University campus, as part of public realm enhancement initiatives.

Ashghal added that eight additional projects, with an estimated combined value of around QR 7 billion, are set to be tendered in the upcoming phase. These include strategic projects, most notably the design and construction of the Southern Strategic Tunnel for surface and groundwater drainage, as well as the Western Strategic Tunnel for the same purpose in the southern area, as part of efforts to enhance stormwater drainage systems, improve infrastructure network efficiency and mitigate flooding risks.

Upcoming tenders will also cover road and infrastructure development projects serving citizens' land plots in various areas in the north and south of the country.

On this occasion, HE President of Ashghal, Eng. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Meer affirmed that the authority is proceeding with project implementation in accordance with the State's strategic plan across roads, buildings, drainage and service facilities sectors, in line with urban and economic development plans. He noted that the current package includes 20 projects valued at more than QR 11.5 billion.

He added that during the first quarter of 2026, 12 projects worth over QR 4.5 billion were awarded, including the Hamad General Hospital redevelopment and Al Thumama postal building project. Eight further projects valued at approximately QR 7 billion are scheduled for tender, including two major drainage tunnels in the southern region, as well as infrastructure development in residential areas and citizens' land plots.

Al Meer emphasized that the awarded projects were assigned to Qatari companies, underscoring Ashghal's commitment to strengthening the role of national firms, enhancing their competitiveness and reinforcing the local private sector as a key partner in development, thereby supporting the national economy and advancing technical and engineering capabilities in the local market.

For his part, Projects Affairs Director, Eng. Khalid Al Khayareen, said the new project portfolio spans vital sectors, including roads, infrastructure, drainage, and buildings, reflecting the comprehensiveness of Ashghal's plan and its responsiveness to the needs of different areas.

He noted that one of the most prominent awarded projects is the Hamad General Hospital redevelopment, which includes a comprehensive modernization plan covering systems and facilities in line with rapid developments in the healthcare sector, at a total value of approximately QR 1.179 billion, contributing to improved healthcare quality and operational efficiency.

Meanwhile, Director of the Engineering Services Department, Ghanem Al Mansoori, stated that tendering and awarding procedures are conducted in accordance with the Tenders Law and its executive regulations, ensuring transparency and equal opportunity.

He added that contractor selection is based on clear technical and financial criteria, primarily competence, experience and professional track record, while giving priority to Qatari companies in alignment with Ashghal's strategy to support the national private sector. (QNA)
