Doha, February 10 (QNA) - Under the slogan "I Chose Sport," Qatar marked the 15th edition of National Sports Day with wide-scale celebrations across the country, involving all ministries, government bodies, and public institutions in line with Amiri Decree No. (80) of 2011.

The decision designates the second Tuesday of February each year as National Sports Day, during which ministries and public entities organize sporting activities for employees and their families to raise awareness of the importance of sport and its role in individual and community life.

Ministries organized a variety of sports activities with the participation of their employees and members of the public, as part of an annual tradition aimed at promoting physical activity and embedding sport as an essential part of daily life.

Aspire Park hosted participants in activities organized by the Ministry of Sports and Youth, represented by the Qatar Sports for All Federation (QSFA), in cooperation with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.

The events were attended by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Eng. Yasser bin Abdullah Al Jamal, alongside Assistant Undersecretary for Sports Affairs Abdulrahman Abdullah Hassan Al Malki, Assistant Undersecretary for Youth Affairs Ahmed Al Harmi, Chairman of the National Sports Day Committee and QSFA President Abdulrahman bin Muslim Al Dosari, and Jassim Al Jassim of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.

The officials took part in the activities, including a mini football match and tours of the various sports zones prepared for participants of all ages.

Activities organized by the Sports for All Federation at Aspire Park catered to all family members, featuring children’s balloon races, self-defense demonstrations, football, volleyball, badminton, running, chess, tug of war, as well as specialized strength and endurance sessions, stretching and recovery classes, gymnastics, and a wide range of other sports and recreational activities.

The events witnessed strong public turnout, particularly from youth and children, with participants from all age groups enjoying a vibrant, family-friendly sporting atmosphere.

The high level of engagement reflected the community’s interaction with the message of National Sports Day, turning the occasion into an open platform for inclusive participation and the promotion of physical activity and healthy lifestyles.

The activities at Aspire formed part of a broader national scene, as thousands of citizens and residents of different ages and nationalities headed to public parks, squares, sports fields, and green spaces across the country to take part in National Sport Day.

The initiative aims to reinforce public awareness of the importance of sport in enhancing public health, quality of life, and making physical activity a core element of daily living.

Chairman of the National Sports Day Committee Abdulrahman bin Muslim Al Dosari praised the distinctive atmosphere accompanying the various activities, noting that the large turnout across age groups reflects strong public engagement with the occasion.

He said the widespread activities across parks, open spaces, and sports facilities demonstrate the Ministry of Sports and Youth’s commitment to geographically distributing events to cover all areas of the country, including Msheireb, Lusail, Aspire, The Pearl, Al Bidda, Katara, Education City, and northern, southern, and western regions.

Al Dosari added that the program includes women-only activities in more than 18 locations to enhance community participation, stressing that the strong turnout highlights growing awareness of the importance of sport and the need to embed it as a sustainable healthy lifestyle.

He emphasized that National Sport Day has evolved into a leading national initiative reflecting Qatar’s vision of building a healthy and active society, noting that it is no longer just an annual occasion but a national platform for promoting continuous physical activity.

The Chairman of the National Sports Day Committee pointed out that this year's slogan, "I Chose Sport," reflects a conscious national direction affirming that sport is a responsible choice that enhances individual health, well-being, and overall quality of life.

For his part, Executive Director of QSFA Abdullah Al Dosari, expressed his satisfaction with the strong attendance from early morning, highlighting the prominent participation of families with their children as a key feature of the celebrations and a clear indication of growing societal awareness of sports culture.

He noted that children’s participation alongside their parents created a unique atmosphere, turning the event into a family-oriented sporting gathering that blends physical activity with educational and family values.

This, he said, embodies the true meaning of the slogan "I Chose Sport," adding that the federation is keen to diversify sports and recreational programs to suit different ages and abilities, allowing participants freedom of choice and maximizing health and fitness benefits for all.

The Public Prosecution, in turn, participated actively in the National Sports Day celebrations, in the presence of HE Attorney General Dr. Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi, alongside a host of prosecution members, administrative leaders, and staffers.

This participation represented a practical embodiment of the institution's commitment to supporting physical activity and its positive impact on building a balanced and productive work environment.

The events organized by the Public Prosecution included a wide range of activities, such as fitness exercises, running races, and team sports matches, contributing to strengthening team spirit and cooperation among employees.

The activities also featured sports events and competitions dedicated to children, creating a family-friendly atmosphere filled with enthusiasm and positive interaction.

The Public Prosecution affirmed that this annual occasion constitutes a valuable opportunity to enhance human connection and entrench positive values among staffers, which is reflected positively in the work environment and raises the level of institutional performance.

It added that this participation aligns with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV2030), which prioritizes public health and sustainable development and seeks to build a vibrant and tight-knit society through encouraging sports participation.

The Public Prosecution's staffers expressed their admiration for the incredible edition of National Sports Day, lauding its organization, which combined fair sporting competition with human solidarity.

They described it as an opportunity to reorder healthy life priorities and a practical reminder of the importance of balancing professional commitment with self-care.

They also stressed that such initiatives enrich the institutional environment and instill authentic sporting values such as discipline, integrity, and teamwork, which directly benefit their professional performance.

The events concluded with the honoring of participants, in an appreciative gesture underscoring the value of human capital and the importance of sport as a key driver for improving quality of life.

For its part, the National Archives of Qatar participated today in the Sports Day activities held at Wisdom Square in Katara Cultural Village, in collaboration with QF's Special Schools and Special Educational Needs Services (S4).

This participation comes within the Archives' efforts to support national events that promote sports activity and reinforce a culture of institutional and community engagement, in line with QNV2030 aimed at building a healthy and cohesive society capable of achieving sustainable development.

The event was attended by Secretary-General of the National Archive of Qatar Ahmed Abdullah Al Buainain, and Assistant Secretary-General, Aisha Khalid Al Saad, who emphasized the importance of such participation in consolidating a culture of community inclusion and enhancing cooperation with national institutions supporting persons with disabilities.

They noted that these activities represent a practical model of effective community partnership and contribute to reinforcing the values of solidarity and social integration.

As part of its documentation role, the National Archives of Qatar dedicated a special corner to documenting the journey of sports champion Hassan Al Shahi, a person with special needs on the autism spectrum, where a documentary report highlighted his key sporting achievements and milestones of success.

This underscores the importance of documenting national success stories and showcasing inspiring role models, demonstrating the Archives' commitment to supporting social inclusion and enhancing the participation of persons with disabilities in national events.

The National Archives of Qatar's pavilion also hosted a variety of sports activities, including football, tennis, and bowling, in addition to a children's segment for coloring sports characters, designed to provide an interactive experience for visitors of all age groups, while observing the principle of equal opportunity and encouraging collective participation.

The pavilion witnessed notable public engagement, with visitors taking part in sports activities and competitions, as the events provided an inclusive environment allowing diverse activities in a sporting and social atmosphere.

The Archives concluded its participation by reaffirming its enduring support for national initiatives and community activities that promote the values of inclusion and equity, provide opportunities for all segments of community to engage in sports events, contribute to entrenching a culture of sport and public health, and reflect the institution's commitment to its societal role in serving the nation.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) organized a series of sports activities as part of the National Sports Day celebrations, held at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, in the presence of HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie.

The events were attended by the Ministry’s Assistant Undersecretaries and Directors of Departments, who participated alongside staffers in the sports activities in an atmosphere characterized by engagement and a positive spirit.

The participation of the Ministry in this day underscores its ongoing efforts to support the Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly in the human development pillar, by encouraging staffers to pursue healthy behaviors, fostering a culture of physical activity, and building a work environment that supports both mental and physical well-being.

The events featured a variety of sports activities, including padel, tennis, walking, and fitness exercises, with notable participation from Ministry staff and their families.

He highlighted that the Ministry considers sport as a supportive element for enhancing staffers’ performance, improving the work environment, and strengthening mental and physical well-being, while such initiatives contribute to creating a positive and motivating work environment.

The Minister further noted that Qatar has worked to provide a supportive environment for sports activities through the development of sports infrastructure, as well as public parks and dedicated walking and cycling tracks that respect environmental considerations and encourage sustainable use of facilities.

These efforts, he suggested, reflect the nation's approach to integrating public health with environmental protection within a comprehensive framework.

The Minister called on members of society to make use of National Sports Day as an opportunity to renew physical activity, enhance public health awareness, adopt daily sports practices to improve physical fitness and mental health, and boost vitality across all age groups.

Meanwhile, Director of the Public Relations and Communications Department at the Ministry, Farhoud Hadi Al Hajri, stated that this day represents a unifying national occasion that reflects Qatar's commitment to human health and its dedication to fostering a culture of sports as a core element in individual development and productivity.

He noted that the nation is committed to raising awareness about the importance of physical activity and motivating all segments of society to participate, whether regularly or through the broad community engagement witnessed during this annual event.

Dr. Al Hajri highlighted that National Sports Day offers an opportunity to restore sports as a collective social activity rather than merely a competitive pursuit, affirming that it reinforces the concept of sport for all, regardless of age, physical ability, or occupation.

The Ministry is committed to persistently supporting national initiatives that promote community health and establish sport as a lifestyle, in alignment with the nation's vision of building a healthy and balanced community capable of continuing sustainable development with a positive spirit and sustained activity.

Al Attiyah further explained that this national commitment has continued even during exceptional periods, with the nation ensuring the implementation of National Sports Day activities under strict health protocols, balancing public health protection with the continuity of physical activity.

This approach, she said, aligns with international recommendations emphasizing the importance of maintaining physical activity during health crises for its direct impact on physical and mental well-being.

Regarding the UNHRC's activities, Al Attiyah clarified that the committee has leveraged sport as a means of strengthening awareness by organizing sports activities, alongside exhibitions such as "Human Rights and Football", hosted multiple times at the UN headquarters in Geneva, in European and Arab capitals, and in Doha, marking the FIFA World Cup, AFC Asian Cup, and Arab Cup.

These initiatives have highlighted the shared values between sports and human rights, primarily dignity, equality, respect, and non-discrimination, the Chairperson underlined.

She affirmed that football, as the most widely played sport globally, serves as an effective platform for relaying human rights messages across cultures and communities and enhances international dialogue on the responsibility of sport in protecting human rights.

Al Attiyah concluded that this day represents an annual milestone for reinforcing partnerships between national institutions and the community in supporting healthy lifestyles, establishing the societal belief that practicing sport is a cornerstone of health prevention and social stability.

The integration of human rights concepts into sports activities reflects a practical approach to embedding rights-based values into daily life, contributing to a more aware and balanced society, and reinforcing sport as a unifying space for shared human values, she pointed out.
