German Chancellor: Developing AI Should be Centered on Human Values
Berlin, November 02 (QNA) - German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz said that developing artificial intelligence (AI) should be centered on human values and for human dignity to remain at the core of technological policies.
During the 2026 Digital Summit, held under the slogan 'Shaping AI: safe, sovereign, competitive', Merz called on strengthening digital sovereignty for Germany and Europe by supporting the development of models suitable for industrial use and investing in future research to reduce abroad reliance.
The German Chancellor also stressed the importance of international cooperation, especially with France and Canada, to exchange knowledge and diversify supply chains, highlighting the economic opportunities that AI presents to industrial and electronic sectors.
He furthermore warned of heavily relying on AI systems without proper observation, underlining that establishing digital transformation rules and ensuring application of technology to ensure freedom and human dignity represent a common responsibility shared between politicians, economists, and individuals in society.
