Katara Opens "Mark and Memory" Stamp Exhibition Highlighting Cultural Heritage
Doha, November 02 (QNA) - The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara), in cooperation with the Qatar Philatelic and Numismatic Center, opened Monday the "Mark and Memory" stamp exhibition at Building 22. The exhibition runs until December 3.
The exhibition reflects Katara's efforts to preserve cultural heritage and highlight the importance of postage stamps as historical documents and visual records capturing peoples' social and cultural lives and preserving their collective memory.
Its title brings together two concepts: "Mark," representing the lasting imprint of previous generations, and "Memory," referring to the cultural and human heritage passed down through customs, traditions, values and stories.
The exhibition features stamps showcasing various aspects of heritage, including customs and traditions, traditional clothing, and the popular professions and crafts practiced by previous generations as essential parts of their daily lives and livelihoods.
It also highlights traditional jewelry and ornaments, folk music and arts, as well as pearl diving and its associated tools, underscoring the craft's economic and social importance in Gulf history before the discovery of oil. (QNA)
