Gold Slips as Dollar Gains, Treasury Yields Hit 24-Year Highs
Singapore, October 06 (QNA) - Gold prices retreated on Tuesday as a stronger US dollar and elevated Treasury yields weighed on the precious metal, although losses were contained by fading expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike this month.
Spot gold fell 0.3% to $4,128.69 an ounce, while US gold futures were little changed at $4,156.
The dollar extended its gains, making gold more expensive for holders of other currencies and weighing on demand. Meanwhile, yields on 10-year and 30-year US Treasuries climbed to their highest levels in 24 years on Monday, reflecting continued weakness in the bond market.
Among other precious metals, spot silver fell 0.6% to $60.67 an ounce, while platinum dropped 0.7% to $1,710.08 and palladium eased 0.2% to $1,170.15. (QNA)
