Rights Centre: Israeli Control Covers 70 percent of Gaza, Inhabitable Area Shrinks to 15 percent
Gaza, October 28 (QNA) - The Gaza Center for Human Rights has warned that Israel's westward expansion of the so-called "Yellow Line", accompanied by shelling, gunfire and demolitions, is pushing Palestinians from populated areas.
The center said Israeli forces control or restrict access to more than 70 percent of Gaza's 365 square kilometers, leaving an estimated 15 percent usable for housing and shelter after excluding destroyed areas and land lacking essential services.
It warned that repeated displacement, shortages of shelter and restrictions on reconstruction deepen civilian hardship and hinder safe returns.
The center said the practices raise concerns under Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibits the forcible transfer of protected persons from occupied territory, except in limited circumstances.
It urged ceasefire guarantors, particularly the United States, Egypt, Qatar and Turkiye, to halt the expansion, protect civilians, facilitate reconstruction and ensure displaced Palestinians can safely and voluntarily return home. (QNA)
