DICID Chairman Underlines Dialogue in Overcoming Distrust and Managing Differences
Baku, October 28 (QNA) - HE Chairman of the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue (DICID), Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi emphasized that the true impact of dialogue is measured by its ability to transcend conference halls and permeate education, institutions, and daily life.
He noted that dialogue serves to curb distrust and manage differences without letting them escalate into hostility, stressing the need to address sensitive religious and cultural issues with wisdom. This, he explained, requires informed discussion that respects the dignity of individuals of different faiths and encourages listening to diverse perspectives without prejudice.
Dr. Al Nuaimi made these remarks during his speech at the 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, currently underway in Baku, Azerbaijan under the theme "Dialogue for a Common Future: Building Bridges in a Divided World."
To strengthen cooperation among dialogue platforms, Dr. Al Nuaimi outlined several key pathways, "Starting with knowledge Exchange and setting shared priorities that include religious freedom; youth engagement in religious dialogue; peacebuilding; conflict resolution; and countering identity-based hostility through developing collaborative initiatives with clear objectives and measurable outcomes."
In this context, he pointed out that the priority does not necessarily lie in establishing new institutions, but rather in leveraging existing knowledge, relationships, and resources more effectively, alongside coordinating ongoing efforts to achieve tangible results.
Highlighting the Center's journey, Dr. Al Nuaimi shared DICID's experience in advancing interfaith dialogue through international conferences, research, publications, university initiatives, and community programs. He noted that the Center's path began with interfaith dialogue conferences in 2003, culminating in its official establishment in 2010. Since then, its activities have expanded to include partnerships with international institutions and networks, active participation in global dialogue initiatives, and the promotion of dialogue within academic environments alongside youth engagement.
Concluding his address, Dr. Al Nuaimi underscored the necessity of moving beyond communication and the exchange of ideas to define shared priorities and a practical commitment to cooperation. He asserted that the true value of dialogue lies not only in the words exchanged by participants, but in the opportunities it creates for collaboration and joint action.
The DICID's participation in the Forum, which was inaugurated by HE President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, reflects the Center's prominent standing in international platforms dedicated to interfaith and intercultural dialogue. It also highlights DICID's commitment to contributing to academic and institutional discussions aimed at fostering mutual understanding and peacebuilding.
Furthermore, the participation provides opportunities to exchange expertise with relevant institutions and explore horizons for cooperation in scientific research, academic programs, and community and youth initiatives. It aligns seamlessly with the Center's overarching mission to promote interfaith and intercultural dialogue through rigorous scientific research, academic and cultural programs, and outreach initiatives.
In a related remarks, Dr. Al Nuaimi affirmed that these core pillars directly align with DICID's mandate to foster interfaith dialogue through scientific research, academic programs, and community engagement. (QNA)
