Doha, October 28 (QNA) - Barwa Real Estate Group, represented by Waseef, has signed a cooperation agreement with the Gulf Organization for Research and Development (GORD) to advance sustainability and improve the operational and environmental performance of buildings and real estate assets through specialized standards and solutions.

The agreement was signed by Waseef Chief Executive Officer Eng. Mohammed Ismail Al Emadi and GORD Founding Chairman Dr. Yousef bin Mohammed Alhorr at Barwa Real Estate Group's pavilion at Cityscape Qatar 2026, in the presence of Barwa Real Estate Group Chief Executive Officer Eng. Ahmad Mohammed Al Tayeb.

The agreement focuses on applying the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) standards to promote sustainable and environmentally responsible buildings. It also provides for exploring solutions to optimize energy and resource consumption, improve operational efficiency and enhance the environmental performance of real estate assets.

The two parties will also exchange knowledge and technical expertise and explore practical initiatives tailored to existing buildings and properties. These efforts aim to improve performance, support compliance with sustainability requirements and maintain operational efficiency and long-term asset value.

The partnership reflects Barwa Real Estate Group's commitment to improving the sustainability and efficiency of its property portfolio through enhanced asset management, better operational practices and specialized solutions that balance environmental performance, operational efficiency and economic value.

Commenting on the agreement, Eng. Mohammed Ismail Al Emadi, Chief Executive Officer of Waseef, said: "This agreement reflects our commitment to continually improving how we manage and operate real estate assets, drawing on specialized expertise and GSAS standards to enhance the efficiency and performance of properties managed and operated by Waseef, whether owned by Barwa Real Estate Group or other entities. We consider sustainability an important element of asset management, given its contribution to operational efficiency and the preservation of long-term asset value."

He added: "Through our cooperation with GORD, we look forward to benefiting from its expertise, exchanging knowledge on sustainable buildings and exploring practical solutions and initiatives suited to the characteristics and needs of different assets. These efforts will support resource efficiency and create lasting value for assets and those who use them."

Dr. Yousef Alhorr, Founding Chairman of GORD, said: "We are pleased to collaborate with Barwa Real Estate Group, represented by Waseef, and see this partnership as an important step towards expanding the application of GSAS standards in real estate asset management and operations. Sustainability extends beyond the design and construction of buildings; it is reflected in how efficiently they are operated and managed throughout their lifecycle."

He added: "This cooperation offers an opportunity to apply GSAS standards and GORD’s expertise to translate sustainability objectives into practical, measurable improvements in existing assets. By assessing the needs of each asset and identifying opportunities to optimize energy and resource consumption, we can help improve environmental and operational performance while preserving long-term value."
