Qatar Takes Part in Arab Water Security Talks in Cairo
Doha, October 27 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has taken part in two water-related events in Cairo focusing on regional water security, sustainable water resource management and cooperation among Arab states.
President of the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) Abdullah Al Theyab led Qatar's delegation to the 17th Arab Ministerial Water Council and attended the opening ceremony of the seventh Arab Water Conference, held as part of the ninth Cairo Water Week.
The events attracted ministers, senior officials, experts and representatives of regional and international organizations working in the water sector.
The ministerial council discussed progress on implementing the Arab Water Security Strategy and its action plan, as well as efforts to achieve water-linked Sustainable Development Goals.
Officials also discussed coordination among Arab countries in regional and international water forums, alongside the links between water, energy, food and climate change.
Other priorities included improving water-use efficiency, expanding the use of non-conventional water resources, and increasing the treatment and reuse of wastewater.
Participants also examined how modern technologies, digital transformation and artificial intelligence could improve water resource management.
The council considered ways to strengthen cooperation on shared water resources, support Arab water rights and develop water diplomacy. Discussions also covered the water situation in Palestine and support for Iraq's water rights in the Tigris and Euphrates river basins.
Participants further explored partnerships with relevant institutions, international organizations, financial bodies and the private sector to support priority water projects, knowledge exchange and capacity-building.
Al Theyab stressed the importance of continued coordination among Arab countries, sharing expertise and adopting modern technologies to improve water management and advance the objectives of the Arab Water Security Strategy and sustainable development.
Officials said Qatar's participation reflects Kahramaa's commitment to joint Arab initiatives aimed at strengthening regional water security and promoting cooperation on one of the region's key development challenges. (QNA)
