UNESCO Executive Board Adopts Decisions to Advance Organization's Work
Paris, October 20 (QNA) - The Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) concluded its 225th session on Tuesday, addressing key strategic issues, including the UNESCO 80 roadmap, reform of its field office network, and the proposed 2028–2029 programme and budget.
Chaired by HE President of UNESCO's Executive Board Dr. Nasser bin Hamad Al Hinzab, the session also examined a possible international recommendation on youth and digital environments in the age of artificial intelligence, ahead of its consideration at the organization's extraordinary General Conference session scheduled for January 29, 2027.
In his closing remarks, HE Dr. Al Hinzab said the Board had adopted several important decisions despite differing views among member states, praising the spirit of cooperation and constructive dialogue that helped advance discussions.
He stressed that the value of decisions and deliberations lies in translating them into practical action and tangible results, strengthening UNESCO's ability to fulfill its responsibilities and respond to member states' priorities.
He added that multilateralism does not require all countries to share identical positions, but rather to uphold common principles and work collectively to address challenges that no country can tackle alone.
He reaffirmed his commitment as Board president to promoting respectful dialogue, consensus-building and the organization's unity and effectiveness.
Dr. Al Hinzab said UNESCO embodies a system of values and principles that should be reflected in member states' practices and decisions, emphasizing respect for differing views and the pursuit of common ground to achieve shared goals.
He thanked member states, UNESCO officials and teams for their contributions to the session's success. (QNA)
