Washington, September 30 (QNA) - US President Donald Trump announced today that the withdrawal of the last US troops from Iraq came after the completion of their mission to defeat ISIS militants, declaring an end to Operation Inherent Resolve and describing the withdrawal as a victory for the United States and Iraq.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the United States was leaving Iraq with what he described as a great new prime minister, adding that he had supported him from the beginning and fully endorsed him.
He described the withdrawal as a victory for the United States and Iraq and a decisive victory over ISIS. He added that the group had been completely decimated during his first administration and said he had set a clear mission, given military commanders the tools needed to accomplish it and refused to allow a temporary presence to become permanent.
Trump added that he had faced a choice between staying and leaving and had concluded, without question, that it was time for America to return home.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) had announced earlier today the completion of the orderly departure of US forces and equipment from Erbil Air Base, marking the end of the Operation Inherent Resolve mission in Iraq. (QNA)
