Palestine Foreign Ministry Urges Int'l Action as Settler Terrorism Escalates
Ramallah, October 01 (QNA) - The Palestinian Foreign Ministry has urged the international community to take immediate action to protect Palestinians and end "terrorism" by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank.
In a statement on Thursday, the ministry called for global institutions to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities and activate accountability mechanisms against those responsible for crimes and those supporting them.
It called for sanctions against settlement leaders and settlers, a ban on dealings with settlements and organizations and companies linked to them, and restrictions on the entry of settlement products into international markets.
The ministry also called for the use of universal jurisdiction and for steps towards ending the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The statement followed an attack by groups of settlers, with the support and protection of Israeli forces, on the village of Yasuf, east of Salfit, in the occupied West Bank.
The attack resulted in the death of a Palestinian man from injuries sustained in the incident and injuries to another Palestinian, according to the ministry.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry condemned the attack, saying it demonstrated clear coordination between settlers and Israeli forces and constituted a serious violation of international law and humanitarian principles. (QNA)
