Beirut, January 08 (QNA) - UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix affirmed on Thursday that the continued operation of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and peacekeeping forces aims to support regional security and stability despite ongoing risks.

Lacroix highlighted UNIFIL's continued role in preserving stability in Lebanon and advancing the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 throughout the mission's mandate, despite budget reductions.

During his meetings in Beirut with Lebanese officials, the UN Under-Secretary-General expressed appreciation for their support for UNIFIL and discussed preparations for options regarding the future implementation of Resolution 1701 after the UN force's operations conclude at the end of 2026, in accordance with a request by the Security Council.
