Doha, January 26 (QNA) - Under the directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the State of Qatar announced the provision of development and humanitarian support to the Republic of Lebanon, with a total value of USD 434,248,000, benefiting more than 1.5 million people, through the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and in coordination with the relevant Lebanese authorities.

In a statement on Monday, QFFD indicated that this package includes a contribution of up to USD 400 million to support the energy sector, of which 10 percent is allocated as a grant, and extends to include support for a number of vital sectors, particularly the education sector through the provision of scholarships, and support for the capabilities of the Lebanese army through the provision of military vehicles and equipment, in addition to supporting the sports sector in a way that contributes to empowering young people.

QFFD highlighted that this support comes as an extension of the strong fraternal relations between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Lebanon, and in the context of the State of Qatar's commitment to supporting vital sectors and enhancing the ability of communities to respond to current economic and social challenges, thereby strengthening stability and supporting recovery and sustainable development efforts.

Marking the occasion, HE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Vice Chairperson of the Board of Directors of QFFD Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, said that this support reflects the State of Qatar's commitment to stand by the fraternal Lebanese people and support their resilience, and to fulfill its humanitarian and developmental responsibilities toward fraternal countries, in a way that contributes to consolidating the foundations of stability, peace and sustainable development.
