Gulf Geographical Society Conference Explores AI and Climate Change
Doha, January 26 (QNA) - Doha is hosting the 7th Scientific Conference of the Gulf Cooperation Council's (GCC) Geographical Society (GCCGS) at Katara Cultural Village, bringing together academics and researchers from the Gulf and Arab world to discuss the latest applications of artificial intelligence, climate change, remote sensing, urban planning, geographic education and environmental studies.
On the second day, sessions focused on the use of AI in natural and environmental geography, including its role in climate change mitigation and adaptation. Researchers presented studies ranging from AI-based rainfall modeling in Saudi Arabia to spatial analysis of urban heat islands and flood risks in Doha.
Other topics included biodiversity conservation in Oman using AI tools, the use of GIS in geographic education, and monitoring urban air pollution in industrial cities.
Participants highlighted the importance of integrating AI and geospatial technologies to support sustainable development and environmental planning in the region.
The conference concludes on Tuesday with a session on modern geographic technologies, final recommendations, and a general assembly of the Gulf Geographical Society.
Delegates also visited cultural sites, including the Museum of Islamic Art and Souq Waqif. (QNA)
