European Stocks Close Lower
Brussels, January 20 (QNA) - European stocks closed lower on Tuesday following widespread selling as the specter of new tariffs continued to weigh on market sentiment.
The pan-European Stoxx 600 index ended the session down 0.72%, with most sectors and all major regional exchanges declining.
The French CAC 40 index fell 0.61% to 8,062.58 points.
The British FTSE 100 index dropped 0.67%.
The German DAX index also lost 1.08%.
This decline comes after US President Donald Trump announced last Saturday that eight European countries allied with Washington will face increased tariffs starting at 10 percent on February 1, rising to 25 percent on June 1 if no agreement is reached allowing Washington to "buy" Greenland, the self-governing territory of Denmark.
