Gaza, January 01 (QNA) - The death toll from Israeli occupation's offensive on the Gaza Strip has risen to 71,271 people, with at least 171,230 others injured since Oct. 7, 2023, according to medical sources in the territory.

Health officials said Gaza hospitals received two bodies in the past 24 hours — one person who died from recent injuries and another whose remains were recovered from under the rubble — as well as one injured patient.

They warned that the true toll could be higher, as many victims are still believed to be trapped beneath destroyed buildings or lying in streets that remain inaccessible to ambulance and civil defence teams due to ongoing security and logistical constraints.

Medical sources also reported that since a ceasefire took effect in October last year, at least 416 people have been killed and 1,153 injured. During the same period, emergency crews recovered 683 bodies from across the territory.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire, with hospitals operating under severe strain and shortages of medical supplies, fuel and staff continuing to hamper emergency response efforts. (QNA)
