Riyadh, September 15 (QNA) - The General Assembly of the Union of Arab Football Associations (UAFA) elected HE Minister of Sports and Youth Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al-Thani, who is also the Honorary President of the Qatar Football Association (QFA), as Vice President of the UAFA by acclamation, during a meeting held on Monday in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

The General Assembly also elected Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal, President of the UAFA, as Chairman of the UAFA Council by acclamation for a new term (2025-2029).

Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Isa Al Khalifa, Eng. Hani Abu Rida, Fawzi Lekjaa, Hashem Haidar, Abdullah Al Junaibi, Ahmed Yahya, and Dr. Moatasem Jaafar were also elected to the UAFA Council.

Jibril Rajoub, representing the State of Palestine, was also elected, along with Samar Nassar, who was appointed as a women's member.

Following the meeting, the signing ceremony of agreements to host UAFA competitions with the association of Egypt, Iraq, the UAE, Libya, Lebanon, and Mauritania, in addition to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, took place. These seven associations will host 14 Arab championships from 2026 to 2029.

The UAFA Council had previously held its 79th meeting, during which it approved the administrative and financial reports of the General Secretariat.

The 80th meeting of the new Council was then held, during which the two Vice Presidents of the Association were elected: First Vice President Eng. Hani Abu Rida and Second Vice President HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al-Thani.

The President of the UAFA, in the presence of the two Vice Presidents, members of the Council, and representatives of the General Assembly, viewed the historical exhibition accompanying the General Assembly meetings, which was organized by the UAFA General Secretariat to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Union's founding.
