Washington, August 29 (QNA) - The US Department of Commerce has announced the final rule to ease export controls on Syria — a move described as the most significant since the US president's decision to end economic sanctions on Damascus.

The department's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) explained that the new rule, to be officially published in the Federal Register on September 2, will expand license exceptions and add new ones to allow the export of civilian-use items in key sectors such as telecommunications, energy, sanitation, and civil aviation, in addition to facilitating the export of items classified as EAR99 (low-risk civilian goods).

This decision reflects the new US administration's approach to creating a more flexible economic environment in its dealings with Syria, following nearly two decades of strict sanctions that directly impacted its industrial and commercial sectors. It also lays the groundwork for a new phase of economic and trade cooperation, aimed at reintegrating Syria into the global economy and enhancing its access to modern technologies and materials. (QNA)
