5.3-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Off Southern Philippines
Manila, August 12 (QNA) - An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck northern Philippines on Tuesday, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 141.3 km, about 64 km southeast of Caburan province, located in the northwestern part of Luzon Island - the largest island in the Philippines.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or material damage, and no tsunami warning was issued.
Earthquakes are common in the Philippines, which lies within the Pacific Ring of Fire, a seismically active zone where tectonic plates meet, causing frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity. (QNA)
