Doha, July 26 (QNA) - The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, represented by the Marine Protection Department, and in collaboration with the Natural Reserves Department, has conducted a high-impact environmental operation in the southern region of Qatar, releasing a new stock of native fish species into the protected waters of the Sealine Reserve located in the south of Qatar.

In a press release on Saturday, the ministry affirmed that this urgent initiative is part of a broader national strategy aimed at safeguarding marine biodiversity in protected areas, a measure that is fully aligned with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and ensures the long-term sustainability of the nation's natural resources for future generations.

The campaign stands as a vital strategic initiative to reinforce Qatar's local fish stockpile, an essential move toward securing national food resilience, which was executed based on rigorous scientific studies conducted by the Aquatic Research Center.

It has been confirmed that the natural conditions within the Sealine Reserve are fit for the growth and reproduction of the selected species. The operation is calibrated to ensure the project's long-term success and sustainability.

In essence, the ministry conducts a pivotal role in this kind of initiative through oversight of its implementation in collaboration with its professional departments, which pursue a clear strategy to protect the marine environment, particularly the protection of natural habitats, the rehabilitation of degraded ecosystems, in addition to curbing human pressures on coastal and marine areas.

In this regard, the ministry stressed that it would continue to monitor this operation so as to gauge the potential impact of this release on the domestic ecosystem and put out periodic reports to ensure achieving the utmost utilization of this initiative.

Overall, Sealine Reserve is one of the key natural reserves in Qatar, as it abounds with prolific biodiversity and unique eco conditions, positioning it as a perfect location for such kinds of initiatives that strike balances between environment protection and resource development. (QNA)
