Iran Files Complaint with UN Security Council Against IAEA Director General
Tehran, June 21 (QNA) - The Islamic Republic of Iran has lodged an official complaint with the United Nations Security Council against Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
According to Iran's Tasnim News Agency, Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, submitted a letter to both the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General concerning the public statements made by Grossi ahead of the recent Israeli aggression against Iran.
In the letter, Iravani stressed that Grossi's remarks constituted a "grave and blatant violation" of the principle of impartiality, which is a core responsibility of his position. He added that such statements are entirely inconsistent with the legal duties and obligations outlined in the IAEA Statute.
Iravani pointed out that a particularly significant legal concern arises from Grossi's response during a press conference following the opening of the IAEA Board of Governors meeting on June 9. In that conference, Grossi, when addressing Israel's public threats against Iran's safeguarded nuclear facilities, merely referenced what he described as Israel's "alleged concerns", suggesting they merited attention, while deliberately ignoring the explicit prohibitions under international law and the IAEA General Conference resolutions, which unequivocally ban any threat or use of force against nuclear facilities intended for peaceful purposes.
Since last Friday, Israel has launched attacks on Iran targeting nuclear facilities, missile bases, senior military commanders, and nuclear scientists. In response, Tehran fired ballistic missiles and deployed drones deep into Israeli-occupied territories, marking the largest direct confrontation between the two sides to date. (QNA)
