New York, May 21 (QNA) - The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has affirmed that hunger in Gaza is merely one facet of the horrors endured by Palestinians there.

Senior Communications Officer and Spokesperson for UNRWA, Louise Wateridge, stated during her virtual participation in the United Nations Office at Geneva's weekly press briefing that the agency's warehouse in Amman, Jordan, holds sufficient food supplies to feed 200,000 people for an entire month.

Wateridge noted that medical supplies and educational materials are also available, however, Israeli-imposed restrictions are obstructing the delivery of these humanitarian aids to the Gaza Strip.

She emphasized that all of these supplies are literally three hours from Gaza, stressing that the world continues to witness images of malnourished children and hear accounts of appalling living conditions.

These supplies should have been in Gaza, and there is no excuse for delay, Wateridge noted.

She further reported that after 11 weeks of intensified Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip, only five aid trucks have been permitted to ingress.

The Israeli occupation authorities persist in a systematic starvation policy against approximately 2.4 million Gazans by keeping border crossings closed to humanitarian aid, which has been accumulating at the borders since March 2.

This has plunged the Strip into a state of famine, resulting in numerous fatalities. (QNA)
