QDA Chairman: Qatar's Hosting of IDF Congress 2027 Affirms Commitment to Excellence in Healthcare
Doha, April 16 (QNA) - Director of the Non-Communicable Disease Prevention Programs at the Ministry of Public Health and Chairman of the Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA) Sheikh Mohamed Bin Hamad Al Thani affirmed that Qatar’s successful bid to host the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Congress in 2027 reflects the country’s unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation in healthcare.
In his statement, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani emphasized that hosting this prestigious event reinforces Qatar’s global leadership in advancing medical research, fostering collaboration, and driving impactful and innovative solutions to tackle non-communicable diseases, particularly diabetes.
He described the congress as a testament to Qatar’s dedication to building healthier communities not only within the country but worldwide.
He noted that the congress, scheduled for late March 2027, will attract experts, researchers, and decision-makers from across the globe, allowing them to witness Qatar’s pioneering efforts in transforming healthcare and establishing more prosperous and healthier societies worldwide.
QDA's Executive Director Dr. Abdullah Al Hamaq described Qatar’s hosting of the congress as a milestone not only for the country but for the entire region.
He highlighted that the International Diabetes Federation Congress is one of the most significant global events dedicated to combating diabetes, bringing together healthcare professionals, researchers, and patient advocates from around the world to exchange knowledge and develop solutions to address the growing prevalence of the disease.
Dr. Al Hamaq stressed that selecting Qatar to host the 2027 congress underscores the nation’s commitment to advancing its healthcare sector and making a lasting impact on global efforts to combat diabetes.
He affirmed that Qatar has demonstrated its capability to organize world-class events.
The Qatar Diabetes Association had previously participated in the International Diabetes Federation Congress held in Bangkok alongside 240 diabetes associations from 160 countries under the federation’s umbrella.
Qatar Tourism officially announced Tuesday Qatar’s selection as the host country for the International Diabetes Federation Congress 2027 during a ceremony held as part of the 2025 congress in Bangkok, Thailand.
The successful bid was led by the Qatar Diabetes Association, with strong support from the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), and Visit Qatar.
The Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA) was established as a charitable and non-profit organization in 1995.
It is a member of the Qatar Foundation and has been an active member of the International Diabetes Federation since 1997, serving as one of its education and awareness centers.
The association leads efforts to prevent and manage diabetes in Qatar and the Middle East, with a mission to provide care and support for individuals living with diabetes, enabling them to lead normal and productive lives. (QNA)
