Doha, April 13 (QNA) - A specialized training course on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) standards for combating money laundering, terrorist financing, and the financing of weapons proliferation commenced today in Doha. The five-day course is hosted by the State of Qatar, represented by the National Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Committee, in collaboration with the FATF and its training center.

Bringing together a distinguished group of regional and international experts and specialists in anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF), the course aims to strengthen participants' technical and legal capacities and enhance their understanding of the latest developments in FATF standards. The training is expected to contribute significantly to the development and refinement of AML/CTF frameworks at both national and regional levels.

Qatar's hosting of the course reflects its steadfast commitment to international and regional cooperation in the fight against financial crime, as well as its dedication to promoting transparency and upholding the highest global standards in financial integrity. This initiative also aligns with the State's broader efforts to create a secure financial environment that supports sustainable development.

In his opening remarks, Secretary of the National Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism Committee, Issa Mohammed Al Hardan highlighted Qatar's prioritization of capacity building and the training of national professionals. He noted that the course is part of Qatar's ongoing preparations for the upcoming round of mutual evaluations, and serves as a strategic opportunity to explore global best practices and engage in meaningful exchange with international experts.

Also speaking at the event, Director of the FATF Training Office, Joel Goddard commended Qatar's initiatives and leadership in this field. He emphasized that hosting such training sessions enhances awareness of international standards and contributes to strengthening institutional performance among relevant entities.

The course features a dynamic program of activities, including presentations, case studies, simulation exercises, and interactive discussions. These sessions are designed to facilitate the exchange of experiences and lessons learned, support the development of more effective AML/CTF mechanisms, and foster greater coordination among regional and international stakeholders.
