Doha, February 15 (QNA) - Amanda Anisimova defeated Jelena Ostapenko and won the Qatar TotalEnergies Open 2025 title.

The final match of the WTA 1000 event held at Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, saw the American player win her Latvian opponent with a score of 6-4, 6-3 in 1 hour and 20 minutes.

HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al-Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF); HE President of the Qatar Tennis, Squash, Badminton and Padel Federation Nasser bin Ghanim Al Khelaifi; and Tournament Director Saad Al Mohannadi awarded Anisimova the golden falcon trophy and Ostapenko the second-place prize.

Ranked 41st in the world and with only two previous titles, Anisimova reached her first final in Qatar. She started her campaign by defeating Belarusian veteran Victoria Azarenka, a two-time Qatar champion (2012, 2013), with a score of 6-3, 7-5.

In the second round, Anisimova beat Spanish player Paula Badosa 6-4, 6-3. Then, she moved on to the third round, where she defeated Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the 2021 US Open runner-up, 6-3, 6-0.

Anisimova continued her impressive performance in the quarterfinals, defeating Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, reaching her first-ever semifinal. She advanced to the final after beating Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-3, 6-3.

Jelena Ostapenko, on the other hand, is ranked 37th in the world and a winner of eight titles, including the 2017 French Open, reached her second Qatar Open final after 2016, when she lost to Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro. (QNA)
