Doha, December 08 (QNA) - HE Minister of Municipality Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah and HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, Mario Lubetkin signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Monday for cooperation in the fields of agriculture and food security. This agreement reflects the two countries' commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and supporting sustainable agricultural development.
The signing of the memorandum stems from both sides' recognition of the importance of the agricultural sector in supporting economic development, enhancing food security, and improving quality of life. It also underscores the added value that the exchange of expertise, knowledge, and technology brings to both countries, in accordance with the principles of international law, the agreements of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the laws and regulations in force in both countries.
The MoU aims to enhance joint cooperation in the fields of agriculture and food security. This includes, in particular, the exchange of information, expertise, specialists, and technical and scientific personnel; collaboration in organizing conferences, seminars, and training programs; collaboration in livestock and artificial insemination; feed production; the import and export of live animals; the use of modern and smart agricultural technologies; the exchange of scientific research findings in agriculture and food security; and cooperation in intensive horticulture, fisheries, and the exchange of relevant statistical data.
Under the Memorandum, the two parties also seek to develop innovative mechanisms for agricultural cooperation by pooling resources, implementing joint training programs, and expanding agricultural markets, thereby contributing to stable and sustainable agricultural development.
The Memorandum also provides for the formation of a joint working group comprised of representatives from both sides. This group will be responsible for monitoring the implementation of its provisions, proposing appropriate programs and mechanisms, evaluating progress, and providing necessary recommendations to strengthen cooperation in the fields of agriculture and food security.
