6.0-Magnitude Earthquake Hits China’s Xinjiang
Beijing, December 04 (QNA) - A 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck China’s Xinjiang region on Thursday afternoon, according to China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).
The quake hit The earthquake struck near the county of Akqi near the Kyrgyzstan-Xinjiang border at 3:44 pm local time (0744 GMT), with the epicentre at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles), said CENC.
So far, no casualties or significant structural damage have been reported.
China is frequently struck by continental earthquakes, accounting for a third of the world's destructive continental earthquakes, due to its location at the meeting point of the Eurasian, Pacific, and Indian Ocean plates, and as a result of active tectonic activity. (QNA)
