Doha, December 03 (QNA) - Jordan opened their FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 campaign with a 2-1 win over the United Arab Emirates at Al Bayt Stadium, moving to the top of Group C.
Ali Olwan put Jordan ahead from the penalty spot in the 20th minute after UAE defender Khalid Al Dhahnahi was sent off for bringing down Yazan Al Naimat in the area. Jordan continued to dominate but saw a second penalty saved by UAE goalkeeper Hamad Al Maqbali shortly before half-time.
Despite being a man down, the UAE equalised early in the second half when Bruno Oliveira fired in a cross from Luan Pereira in the 48th minute. The comeback was short-lived, however, as Al Naimat restored Jordan's lead just after the hour, finishing a move started by Nizar Al Rashdan after a VAR review confirmed the goal.
Jordan missed chances to extend their advantage, while the UAE pushed forward late on but failed to break through. The result leaves Jordan two points clear of Egypt and Kuwait, who drew 1-1 on Tuesday, with the UAE bottom of the group without a point. (QNA)
