Doha, December 27 (QNA) - The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, represented by the Wildlife Development Department, organized a field environmental event to disperse wild plant seeds in Rawdat Umm Al Sahnat in the Al Kaaban area using drones. This is part of the Ministry's ongoing efforts to enhance natural vegetation cover and combat desertification.

The drones, equipped with GPS and smart spraying technologies, dispersed approximately 5,000 seeds of native plants, including wild ziziphus, ghaf, acacia ehrenbergiana (Salam), and acacia tortilis (Samr). These seeds were collected from the same environment, treated, and coated with a biodegradable natural organic material to ensure their protection and enhance their germination rate upon contact with the soil. The seeds were distributed precisely and evenly throughout Rawdat.

On this occasion, Assistant Director of the Wildlife Development Department Dr Dhafi Heedan stated that this step is part of a package of national initiatives adopted by the Ministry to revitalize degraded meadows and increase vegetation cover, relying on innovative and environmentally friendly technological solutions.

He pointed out that the use of drone technology and artificial intelligence is among the most prominent future methods for accelerating cultivation processes and restoring ecological balance in wild areas.

Heedan emphasized that the project is considered one of the department's important strategic projects, given its role in increasing green spaces and combating desertification in the country.

For his part, Director of QDrone Company Hamad Rashid Al Ward expressed his pride in cooperating with the Ministry, praising the advanced national environmental efforts taking place in the country.

Al Ward added that this initiative was implemented entirely on a voluntary basis in support of environmental goals to localize expertise and modern technologies in the field of biodiversity conservation.

He noted that the implementation of the activity came after a field study to identify suitable locations and choose the appropriate timing during the rainy season, which enhances the chances of natural vegetation growth and the success of the environmental rehabilitation of the meadow.

This event is a pioneering model in employing modern technology in environmental management, and an embodiment of the Ministry’s orientation towards environmental innovation, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, and the National Action Plan to Combat Desertification (2025-2030).
