Doha, December 22 (QNA) - Qatar University (QU), represented by its Central Laboratories Unit (CLU), organized a scientific symposium on green analytical chemistry, bringing together a distinguished group of experts, researchers, and specialists to highlight the role of green chemistry in developing analytical laboratory practices and promoting sustainability in scientific research.

In his opening remarks, Assistant Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies at QU, Dr. Mohammed Al Safran emphasized the University's commitment to embedding sustainability principles within its research ecosystem.

He noted that organizing this symposium affirms QU's dedication to implementing environmentally friendly laboratory practices and raising awareness about the importance of transitioning to more sustainable and less environmentally impactful analytical technologies, in line with accelerating global trends in this field.

The symposium addressed several key topics, including the latest innovations in sustainable analytical methods, environmentally friendly sample preparation techniques that reduce the use of hazardous substances, the adoption of energy-efficient instrumentation to minimize environmental impact, and practical strategies to reduce hazardous waste generation in laboratories.

The event also served as a platform for dialogue and the exchange of expertise among academics, industry representatives, and regulatory bodies, helping to unify efforts toward operating environmentally responsible laboratories, ensuring compliance with approved regulations, and encouraging the adoption of best practices that balance scientific accuracy with sustainability requirements.

The symposium contributed to strengthening research collaboration and partnerships among stakeholders, in addition to discussions on regulatory frameworks, emerging technologies, and educational strategies aimed at integrating green chemistry principles into academic curricula and laboratory management, supporting the advancement of sustainable innovation in the research sector.

The symposium concluded by reaffirming QU's leadership role in supporting sustainability and scientific progress, consolidating its position as a leading institution in scientific research and environmental innovation at both national and regional levels.

Participants emphasized that the Green Analytical Chemistry Symposium reflects QU's commitment to environmental responsibility alongside scientific excellence and reinforces the CLU's position as a national hub and model for sustainable laboratory practices in Qatar and the region. (QNA)
