Doha, December 17 (QNA) - President of Algeria's High Authority for Transparency, Prevention and Fight against Corruption (HATPLC), Salima Mesrati, affirmed that Qatar's hosting, for the second time, of the 11th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) reflects a clear commitment to supporting collective and international efforts in this field.

In statements to the Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the sidelines of the Conference of the States Parties to UNCAC, currently being held in Doha, Mesrati explained that Qatar has provided the necessary material and logistical resources to ensure the success of this session, thus reaffirming its commitment to supporting joint international efforts to combat corruption.

In a related context, she explained that Algeria, like the other States Parties to the Convention, continues its commitment to implementing the provisions of the UNCAC since its ratification in 2004, particularly following the 2020 constitutional amendment, which introduced significant institutional and legislative reforms.

She also pointed out that the constitutional amendment resulted in upgrading the HATPLC from an advisory body to a constitutional oversight institution with broad powers, including awareness-raising, training and monitoring, as well as receiving and monitoring asset declarations and investigating crimes of illicit enrichment.

Speaking on HATPLC's achievements, Mesrati revealed that the Authority, since its establishment in July 2022, launched the first national strategy for transparency, prevention and combating corruption in 2023, along with several initiatives, including the adoption of integrity and efficiency indicators in several ministerial sectors, the launch of digital platforms for reporting and declaring assets, and the strengthening of cooperation with civil society organizations.

In concluding her remarks to QNA, Salima Mesrati stressed that Algeria's participation in the 11th session of the Conference constitutes an opportunity to strengthen cooperation and exchange experiences between counterpart institutions, especially with the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority (ACTA) of the State of Qatar, which contributes to consolidating the principles of transparency and integrity.
