Nine Die as Violent Storm Sweeps Across Gaza
Gaza, December 12 (QNA) - Nine Palestinians died and several others were injured in the Gaza Strip within the past 24 hours as a result of successive landslides and widespread flooding triggered by a severe storm that struck the region.
The Palestinian news agency (WAFA) reported that five people were killed and others wounded when a house sheltering displaced families collapsed in Beit Lahia, in the northern Gaza Strip.
WAFA added that two more people died early this morning after a large wall collapsed onto the tents of displaced families in the Rimal neighborhood, west of Gaza City.
Another person died on Thursday when a wall collapsed in the Shati refugee camp.
Two children were also injured when their tent collapsed in the Abu Jabal camp in Gaza City.
Meanwhile, an infant died from extreme cold in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip, on Thursday.
Civil defense crews reported that at least ten houses have collapsed in recent hours.
The storm caused extensive flooding in entire camps in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis and inflicted significant damage in the Al-Bassa and Al-Baraka neighborhoods of Deir al-Balah, the central market in Nuseirat, as well as the Yarmouk and Al-Mina districts of Gaza City. (QNA)
