Doha, December 11 (QNA) - HE Ambassador of the Portuguese Republic to the State of Qatar, Paulo Neves Pocinho, extended greetings to the Government and People of the State of Qatar on the occasion of the National Day, praising the country's significant achievements across various fields, particularly its role as an extraordinary agent for peace, stability, and security on the regional and global stages.

To mark this occasion, Pocinho highlighted to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the wise leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, has successfully balanced economic development with human and societal values, including the protection of the family, women empowerment, in addition to caring for the most vulnerable, and advancing education.

He elaborated that Qatar's foreign policy is characterized by consistency and effectiveness, particularly in its mediation efforts in several conflicts, noting that today Qatar is seen as a reliable, competent, honest, balanced player, always open to collaborate with partners to promote international peace and security.

HE the Ambassador also praised Qatar's pioneering humanitarian role, affirming its ongoing commitment to supporting countries and populations facing difficult humanitarian situations.

Qatar is today a fundamental partner in international cooperation for development, a key factor in promoting global peace and security, alongside its significant contributions to the protection of education in conflict areas and the multilateral agenda, Pocinho underlined.

Pocinho further highlighted Qatar's outstanding performance in the fields of economy, governance, business, and infrastructure development, in addition to its efforts in economic diversification.

He also noted the high reputation Qatar has gained in hosting major sports and international events, including the FIFA World Cup 2022 and other prominent international events, as well as its pivotal role in sustaining global energy systems and supporting the energy transition, achieved through a clear vision and strategic planning.

Addressing Qatar National Vision 2030, His Excellency commended the notable progress Qatar has made in renewable energy, as well as in other areas such as technology and artificial intelligence, in addition to enhancing the investment environment, supporting startups, and developing the financial, tourism, health, and education sectors.

Regarding bilateral relations, Pocinho emphasized the depth of the ties between Portugal and Qatar, noting that they are built on strong friendship, mutual trust, and shared values, such as support for multilateralism, peace and security, and the rules-based international order.

He explained that both countries are always open to dialogue and capable of understanding different perspectives, which contributes to the growth of cooperation in various fields.

HE Ambassador Pocinho cited the Web Summit as a vivid example of this cooperation, noting that the editions hosted in Doha and Lisbon featured a dynamic exchange of ideas among young entrepreneurs and officials from both countries, interactions that could turn into promising economic opportunities.

He also stressed the great potential for growth in tourism and cultural exchange, reaffirming Portugal's constant welcome to visitors from Qatar to enjoy its landscapes, hospitality, and culture.
