CEO of WISE 12 tells QNA: Summit Focuses on Three Key Pillars to Address Current Opportunities and Challenges in Education
Doha, November 25 (QNA) - The newly appointed CEO of the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE12), Dr. Asyia Kazmi, affirmed that the summit focuses on three main pillars to address current opportunities and challenges in global education, with an emphasis on fostering innovation, partnerships, and testing solutions using artificial intelligence.
In her first interview since her appointment, Dr. Kazmi told the Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the first pillar is raising awareness of WISE's comprehensive portfolio of research, innovation, and partnerships at both the local and global levels. She explained that the summit is not merely an event or meeting, but rather a repository of ideas and an innovative and research-based portfolio, including reports such as "Harnessing AI for Higher Education in Africa," which involved over 4,000 participants and approximately 50 African universities. She noted that WISE will continue to support its award winners throughout the year to ensure the development of scalable solutions.
The WISE 12 CEO noted that the second pillar focuses on strengthening local, regional, and global partnerships to improve educational outcomes on a broad scale. She pointed out that WISE collaborates with universities, schools, and ministries to implement innovations such as AI in mathematics education and student assessment, in addition to establishing a research consortium of seven countries focused on integrating technology into academic environments.
Dr. Kazmi indicated that the third pillar is for WISE to be at the forefront of testing solutions and mitigating the risks associated with AI, while maintaining a focus on human values in education. She emphasized that WISE 12 seeks to place people at the heart of the rapid digital advancements by fostering curiosity, empathy, courage, and fairness, and ensuring that innovation leads to positive educational outcomes that empower students to live and lead wisely in a technology-driven world.
Dr. Asyia Kazmi stressed that WISE's innovation stems from her extensive experience in education, beginning with her work as a teacher in London, where she improved student outcomes using data and innovation, and continuing with her leadership of educational projects at the Gates Foundation and in India, which have improved literacy and numeracy skills for millions of children by integrating educational technology and evidence-based innovation.
She highlighted that innovation is not limited to developing educational tools, but also includes designing learning environments, whether in traditional classrooms or in community centers, homes, and less formal spaces, to ensure deeper learning and the necessary human interaction in education. She stressed the importance of training and supporting teachers to effectively adopt AI tools, focusing on equitable outcomes and ensuring that all students, especially those who are behind, benefit from these technologies.
Dr. Kazmi concluded her interview with QNA by pointing to the importance of expanding the scope of action research and innovative experiments at the global level, to ensure that effective solutions reach students and teachers in different countries, while monitoring potential risks such as data privacy and social protection, reaffirming that WISE continues its role as an enabling platform for innovation in education and positively influencing educational policies globally.
