Iraq’s Defense Minister Discusses Strengthening Military and Security Cooperation with Turkish Foreign Minister
Baghdad, November 02 (QNA) - Iraqi Minister of Defense, Thabet Muhammad Saeed Al Abbasi, met on Sunday with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who is currently visiting Iraq, to discuss border security between the two countries.
The Iraqi Ministry of Defense said in a statement that the meeting reviewed bilateral relations and ways to enhance military and security cooperation, particularly in border control, counterterrorism, intelligence sharing, training, and capacity building, aimed at strengthening the security and stability of border areas and serving the mutual interests of both countries.
Al Abbasi emphasized Iraq's commitment to developing defense and security cooperation with Turkiye based on respect for sovereignty and good neighborliness, ensuring that Iraqi territory is not used to harm any country.
For his part, Turkish foreign minister expressed his country's desire to open new avenues for defense, technical, and military training cooperation with Iraqi institutions.
The statement added that both ministers expressed their aspiration for a new phase of joint strategic defense cooperation based on mutual trust and shared interests, serving the security and stability of the region. (QNA)
