Doha, November 14 (QNA) - Qatari snooker player Ali Al Obaidli secured second place at the 2025 World Snooker Championship hosted by the Qatar Billiard Sports Federation, competing against top-ranked international players and former world champions.

Al Obaidli, the 2023 world champion, lost 2-5 to Poland's Michal Szubarczyk in a competitive six-hour final. Both players had won all their group-stage matches to reach the decisive round.

Poland's Zobartchik came from behind to claim the title, demonstrating exceptional skill and determination. The finalists were awarded by Mohamed Al Ramzani, President of the Qatar Billiard Sports Federation, and Mubarak Al Khayarin, President of the International Snooker Federation.

Al Obaidli expressed pride in his performance, highlighting the support of the Qatari federation and his team. He said key victories, including a narrow 4-3 win over Singapore's champion in the round of 16, fueled his progress to the final.

The 2025 championship featured 90 players from 27 countries, with 16 advancing from preliminary rounds to join the world’s top 32 in the main draw.

Al Ramzani praised Al Obaidli's achievement as a milestone for Qatari snooker, emphasizing that it reflects years of dedication by the player and the federation. (QNA)
