Gulf Legislative Leaders: Doha Declaration A Pillar for Advancing Social Development, Sustainable Goals

Manama, November 13 (QNA) - Their Excellencies Speakers of the Shura, Representatives, National, and Ummah Councils of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Countries, welcomed the Doha Political Declaration issued by the Second World Summit for Social Development.
They affirmed it as a foundational framework for supporting social development pathways and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In the final communique of their 19th regular meeting held Thursday in Manama, Bahrain, with the participation of HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, Their Excellencies praised Qatar's successful organization of the global summit.
They also strongly condemned the Israeli military aggression against Qatar on September 9, expressing full solidarity with the country.
The communique described the Israeli attack as a grave violation of international law and an assault on all GCC states, commending Qatar's response within a unified Gulf stance.
The leaders also highlighted Qatar's political and humanitarian role in ceasefire efforts in Gaza, welcoming the humanitarian truce agreement reached at the Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit and subsequent steps to protect civilians and ensure aid delivery.
They stressed the importance of building on these efforts to achieve a comprehensive and lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue in line with international frameworks.
In support of joint parliamentary initiatives, the leaders welcomed outcomes from the GCC-EU joint ministerial meeting, which praised the first inter-parliamentary session between the two blocs.
They emphasized the importance of continuing this institutional dialogue to serve mutual interests and strengthen parliamentary cooperation.
The participants also commended the outcomes of theآ Legislative Forum on Best Legislative Practicesآ in the Field ofآ Artificial Intelligence, hosted by the UAE's Federal National Council in coordination with the GCC General Secretariat.
Furthermore, the GCC legislative leaders agreed to adopt the Gulf digital economy, legislation, infrastructure development, GDP contribution, investment stimulation, and digital platform safety as the joint theme for 2026.
They also endorsed the outcomes of the previous session's seminar on the legislative role of GCC Parliaments in AI governance, realities, challenges, and future prospects. (QNA)
