Minister of Labour Meets Portuguese Counterpart to Enhance Bilateral Labour Cooperation
Lisbon, November 12 (QNA) - HE Minister of Labour Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri met Wednesday with HE Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security of the Republic of Portugal Maria do Rosario Palma Ramalho, along with senior officials from the Portuguese labour sector, to explore avenues for exchanging expertise and successful practices across various labour domains.
The two sides discussed mechanisms to enhance cooperation between Qatar and Portugal, existing partnerships and opportunities to expand collaboration in labour-related fields.
During his visit, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation, HE the Minister of Labour highlighted Qatar's early recognition of the importance of digital transformation in developing the labour market, boosting productivity, and promoting social justice.
He noted that Qatar has implemented substantial reforms, including legislative updates to ensure greater flexibility and fairness, and the deployment of advanced technologies in labour inspection systems, particularly in occupational safety and health, to ensure legal compliance and foster a decent and sustainable work environment.
HE Minister of Labour Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri emphasized the alignment between Qatar's experience in social protection and decent work and that of Portugal, making bilateral cooperation a pioneering step toward building a joint model that balances economic efficiency with social equity.
He also praised the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Qatar's Ministry of labour and Portugal's Ministry of labour, Solidarity, and Social Security, which provides a practical framework for technical exchange, joint training programs, and the development of digital initiatives in labour inspection and occupational safety. The MoU further strengthens collaboration on social protection issues and the empowerment of women and youth. (QNA)
