Port-au-Prince, October 27 (QNA) - A 6.5-magnitude earthquake hit the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean Sea Monday.

The US Geological Survey located the epicenter of the earthquake approximately 162 kilometers east of Desirades Island in Guadeloupe, at a depth of about 10 kilometers.

Several aftershocks measuring 6.0 and 5.4 magnitude were later recorded in the same area, according to the USGS.

The earthquake was felt in Guadeloupe and Martinique, as well as on other islands in the Caribbean.

Authorities did not immediately report any injuries or damage. A tsunami warning was issued after the initial tremor, but it was quickly canceled.

The Caribbean is known for its seismic activity, and tremors are often felt by residents.

Haiti is particularly affected. On January 12, 2010, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake killed more than 200,000 people. (QNA)
