Doha, October 16 (QNA) - The UNESCO Regional Office for the Gulf States and Yemen has launched the fourth edition of the Art, Fashion and Cultural Diplomacy Exhibition at the UN House in Doha.
The event is being organized in collaboration with Qatar's National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, the Ministry of Culture, the AFCD Foundation, and Qatar University's College of Education.
The week-long exhibition, running until October 23, highlights Qatar's rich intangible cultural heritage, coinciding with the International Day for Intangible Cultural Heritage, observed annually on October 17.
UNESCO Representative Salah El Din Zaki Khaled said the event celebrates key Qatari traditions such as Arabic coffee, majlis, and bisht, which are all inscribed on UNESCO's global list of intangible heritage.
The exhibition features over 120 artworks by 22 participants using 22 different artistic techniques, as well as displays of traditional Qatari clothing. Argentina and Romania are also represented.
Dr. Latifa Al-Mughaiseeb from Qatar University emphasized the importance of connecting students to their heritage through arts such as ceramics, crafts, and hand printing, while Ministry of Culture heritage expert Saleh Al Obaidly noted Qatar's pioneering efforts in preserving cultural identity through UNESCO listings.
Three interactive workshops led by renowned visual artist Rodica Grigoreta are also taking place alongside the exhibition.
UNESCO established October 17 as a day to honour the living traditions and cultural practices that shape communities and connect generations. (QNA)
