Ashghal: Full Opening of Al Kharaitiyat Interchange After Completing Comprehensive Development, Maintenance Work

Doha, October 11 (QNA) - The Public Works Authority 'Ashghal' announced the full opening of Al Kharaitiyat interchange, following the completion of comprehensive maintenance and development work, starting Saturday, in coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic.

Ashghal explained that the opening includes the exit loop for those coming from Riffa Street towards North, the loop exit for those coming from the North towards Al Ebb street, in addition to the exit for those coming from Riffa street towards Al Ebb Street.

The bridge exit to those coming from Al kharaitiyat area towards Doha, after completing the expansion work required to enhance traffic flow in the area.

Head of the Doha Highways Department at the Highway Projects Department, Eng. Ali Darwish added that the work included reinforcing the soil with concrete supports before starting maintenance on the main water line with a diameter of 1,600 mm with high pressure along North Road.

A concrete protection box for the water line was also constructed to secure it and facilitate future maintenance work, in cooperation with the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation "Kahramaa".

He pointed out that during the maintenance period, the 15-meter-deep earthen bridge was removed from its top to the main water line, in addition to dismantling about 150 units of supporting concrete slabs and reinstalling them after completing the necessary maintenance. These works took a period of time extending from May 20, 2025 to date.

He stressed that all works were carried out in accordance with the quality and safety standards approved by Ashghal, ensuring the efficiency of the infrastructure and achieving traffic flow in the region.

For his part, Head of the Highway Operation and Maintenance Department, of the Road Operations and Maintenance Department at Ashghal, Eng. Abdullah Al Yafei stated that the expansion works of the exit leading to Doha from the Al Kharaitiyat interchange come within the efforts of the Public Works Authority to improve traffic flow and enhance safety on the main roads.

 The works included converting the exit from one lane to two lanes, which contributes to reducing traffic congestion, especially during peak periods facilitating the movement of people coming from Riffa Street and Al Kharaitiyat area towards Doha.

This expansion aims to raise the efficiency of connectivity between residential and arterial areas, and support the highway network in line with the state's plans to develop infrastructure according to the highest technical and engineering standards. (QNA)
