Amman, January 19 (QNA) - Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and European Union (EU) Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib discussed on Sunday the importance of delivering sufficient and immediate aid to the Gaza Strip, especially after the ceasefire took effect highlighting the need to increase aid to address the humanitarian disaster that has worsened over more than a year of aggression.

During the meeting, Safadi emphasized the importance of concerted efforts to solidify the ceasefire agreement and build upon it to create real prospects for achieving a just and comprehensive solution that meets the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. This includes the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with the two-state solution.

The two sides also discussed developments in Syria, stressing coordination and cooperation in humanitarian aid efforts for Syria through Jordan and supporting the Syrian people during this transitional phase.

Safadi and Lahbib also addressed the ties between Jordan and the European Union, exploring ways to enhance cooperation across various fields.

This comes in light of the two sides' intention to sign an agreement soon to elevate their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership, opening up new avenues for cooperation in many areas. (QNA)
